Top Cards on Twitter 2024: 176-208

As we start to finish up 2024, we do have some unfinished business to attend to.  Back in October, I issued my annual call for people to give their opinions on the best Cardinals Twitter accounts to follow.  It seems like Twitter always winds up going through some sort of moment after baseball season and this year is no different.  For the first time in the 10 years I have done this, we had less voters than the previous year.  In fact, as you’ll see, it’s less than the last few years.

Year Voters
2015 26
2016 42
2017 43
2018 116
2019 138
2020 143
2021 190
2022 219
2023 244
2024 187

Some of the folks on this list will have scaled back their activity or perhaps quietly shifted to another platform.  Some may have deactivated their accounts–they were all active as of the balloting, at least.  What that means for the future of this project, I don’t know.  Maybe 10 years is enough.

Anyway, nobody cares about that.  You want to see some rankings!

This first group is mainly, save the last three, write-in candidates.  As you know, there was an option to write-in anyone that might not have been on the ballot.  Should there be a ballot next year, these folks will be added into the main group.  It’s hard to get much traction here, though we’ve occasionally seen it happen, but making it to the main stage next year is worth it.  Let’s get at it!

There was no clear account that would tie to any MartyMcFly write in, which is why that has no link.  (EDIT: Twitter legend Quinn let me know that should be RLindley88.)  A few of these folks have been on the ballot before, I believe, but didn’t hit the threshold at some point to stay on.  Shoutout to the account for Playing Catch.  I know we’ll be seeing Truman and Richard later on.

Couldn’t find any STLClayton, but if I missed something let me know.  In the same vein the write-in was for “dancardsfan”, which is an account, but I think looking at it our numbered friend was probably the intent.  A couple of professionals in here, the (should be) new starting catcher for the Cardinals in Ivan Herrera and a MLB/NHL online worker in Melanie Rau.  Plus it was nice of someone to write in my personal Twitter account, even if I don’t use it much.

Sandy gets the prize (there is no prize) for highest point total by a write-in.  I had Pat’s name spelled wrong on the ballot so hopefully that didn’t make an impact on the voting.

We’ll keep this going later today, so come back for more accounts!
