The St. Louis Cardinals and PLANLED will announce SHINE STL, a new community outreach program, during a pregame ceremony. SHINE STL is a program initiated by PLANLED where they work in the community to fulfill their mission to improve human life while improving the quality and energy efficiency of lighting. Ozzie Smith, National Baseball and Cardinals Hall of Famer, will serve as the SHINE STL Ambassador. For more information about SHINE STL visit cardinals.com/shine.
Wednesday, June 5
Representatives from 3 Degrees will be in Ford Plaza during tonight’s game to sign up fans for Ameren Missouri’s Pure Power program. Pure Power allows Ameren’s Missouri customers to choose to support the development of Midwest-based renewable energy, like wind power – by purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs).
Thursday, June 6
Representatives from Waste Management, the Cardinals recycling and collection partner, will be recognized during a pregame ceremony for teaming up with the club to encourage sustainability and recycling consumable materials. Currently, there are over 550 recycling containers throughout Busch Stadium and, on average, nine tons of trash is recycled at Busch Stadium each game. As part of the pregame ceremony, Waste Management will share recycling tips and educate fans about reducing waste.
During Green Week, and all season long, the St. Louis Cardinals Knight FM Green Team volunteers walk down the aisles of the seating bowl between innings to collect plastic and aluminum from fans while promoting recycling inside Busch Stadium. In exchange for their services, the volunteers are able to watch the game in standing room only sections of the ballpark, as collections are done only between innings and during pitching changes so as not to disturb fans watching the game.
The St. Louis Cardinals will recognize the Green Team during the game with the Siteman Salute. To volunteer for the Cardinals Green Team, e-mail 4agreenergame@cardinals.com, or for more information, visit cardinals.com/green.

Metro Transit is proud to join the St. Louis Cardinals and other partners during the team’s 2019 Green Week. By transporting thousands of fans and stadium workers to and from each home game on MetroLink trains and MetroBus vehicles, we are helping reduce air pollution by having fewer automobiles on the roadways. It takes a team of partners and volunteers to go green and stay green, and Metro applauds and supports the Cardinals sustainability goals and recycling efforts inside and outside of the ballpark.
Since the launch of #4AGreenerGame in 2008, the Cardinals have diverted nearly 6,500 tons of solid waste from local landfills, 1,600 tons of yard waste and more than 1,400 tons of composted organic material. Busch Stadium continues to become more energy efficient through participation in Ameren Missouri’s Business Energy Efficiency Program. For instance:
o The team has reduced energy use by 10% and water use by 10% since the new stadium opened in 2006.
o In 2012, the team installed 110 solar panels which generate over 22,000 kWh of electricity and have eliminated an estimated 15 tons of carbon from being emitted into the atmosphere
o 37% of the team’s waste was diverted from landfills in 2018.
o The team installed a new LED lighting system this past off-season that will reduce the energy required to operate the field lights by 40%.
