Preacher Tackles a Mock

One of the best parts about Draft season has to be the mocks! They start as soon as the ink dries on the previous edition and don’t stop until just before the curtain goes up tonight.

As your humble Preacher, it has never been a goal of mine to jump into the mock party. The peace the Draft brings has always been enough and would have stayed that way if the Cardinals hadn’t lucked into the top five.

So many factors are in play for St. Louis moving forward, and that simple fact makes the first round a must follow. For hopefully the final time the Birds on the Bat pick this high, here is what most likely goes down in Atlanta.

Quick note: it has to be said that the Cards like every other team work on a budget and rumors of Draft-day deals were not considered for this effort!

#1 Washington – even with all the talk about the Nationals changing things at the top, it seems unlikely that they pass on their next potential star. Ethan joins his brother as number one picks and sets up for a great rivalry. Ethan Holliday – INF

#2 Los Angeles – most teams have tendencies and none are more pronounced than the Angels. They will sprint to the podium to announce this selection. Kade Anderson – LHP

#3 Seattle – this is where things get most interesting to be honest. Factor in a front office that thinks differently plus a strong team in the running for postseason play and that equals help now over later for the Mariners. Liam Doyle – LHP

#4 Colorado – yes, the chances of landing another Holliday are prominently displayed everywhere you look but what if the Rockies were simply using that as a smokescreen for who they really want. Eli Willits -SS

#5 St. Louis – if the board breaks this way, the Cardinals have their choice over three distinct groups. Either the best infield college bat, the most polished southpaw or a possible generational pitcher. How much influence the incoming regime has will be on full display.

And with the fifth pick in the 2025 First Year Player Draft, the St. Louis Cardinals select Seth Hernandez, RHP Corona HS.

That would truly be a nice surprise and one that hopefully gets to play out in just a couple of hours!
