Girls on the Run in honor of Lou Brock

ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 16, 2021– Registration is underway for the 2021 Cardinals 5K, presented by Bally Sports Midwest.  The 5K will take place virtually, allowing fans to run, jog, or walk the race on their own, when and where they want. Proceeds will benefit both the Cardinals Care Redbird Rookies Youth Softball and Baseball Program and Girls on the Run St. Louis.

All participants will receive an exclusive quarter-zip pullover and commemorative medallion that features a tribute to the late Cardinals and National Baseball Hall of Famer, Lou Brock.

“We anticipate holding the Cardinals 5K for years to come, and we plan to honor one of our Hall of Famers each year as we move forward,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care. “We’re excited to kick off this special series of medallions by honoring the great ‘Base Burglar,’ Lou Brock, especially for all of the great work he did for the community.”

Those interested in participating can learn more and register at cardinals.com/5K.  Fans who participate are encouraged to share photos of themselves completing the 5K on social media using #Cards5K.

About Cardinals Care

Cardinals Care was established to give fans a way to team up with Cardinals players and the organization to help children in our community—both on and off the baseball field.  Established in 1997, Cardinals Care has invested over $29 million to support St. Louis area children, built or renovated 24 youth ball fields in local under-resourced neighborhoods, and distributed over $15 million in grants to nonprofit organizations.  Since 2004, Cardinals Care has also orchestrated the innovative Redbird Rookies program, a free co-ed baseball/softball league for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play.  In addition to providing all the uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts for each of the nearly 2,500 kids who participate in the program each year.  To learn more about all of Cardinals Care’s programs visit cardinals.com/community and follow @CardinalsCare on Twitter.
