Cardinals and Peoria Chiefs Announce PDC Extension

St. Louis to continue its affiliation through 2020

                ST. LOUIS, MO (August 21, 2014–The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have agreed to a four-year extension of their player development contract (P.D.C.) with the Peoria (Ill.) Chiefs of the Midwest League (A). Previously contracted through 2016, the newly-announced extension carries through the 2020 season.

“The Peoria Chiefs continue to run a first-class operation providing us with outstanding support of our player development efforts,” said Cardinals’ Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. “We look forward to our continued relationship with the Chiefs and the Peoria community.”

The Cardinals and Chiefs shared a 10-year affiliation from 1995-2004, including 2002 when the Chiefs won their lone Midwest League Championship. The teams re-affiliated in 2013 with the Chiefs finishing fourth in the Midwest League Western Division. The Cardinals also had a three-year minor league presence in Peoria from 1954-56.

The Cardinals currently have two players on their Major League roster who played for Peoria: Yadier Molina (2002) and Jason Motte (2003).
