Cardinals Recall Randal Grichuk

SHANE ROBINSON OPTIONED TO MEMPHIS (AAA)

ST. LOUIS, Mo., May 30, 2014 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have recalled rookie outfielder Randal Grichuk from Memphis (AAA) and optioned outfielder Shane Robinson to the triple-A club.

The 22-year-old Grichuk hit his team-leading 10th home run last night for Memphis and is batting .315 (53-for-168) for the Pacific Coast League club with 32 RBI.  He is ranked 5th in the PCL in slugging percentage (.589), including an outstanding .941 mark versus left-handed pitching.  The right-handed hitting outfielder is batting .451 (23-for-51) overall against southpaws.

Grichuk, a Gold Glove winner last season in the Texas League (AA), has been flawless in the field this season, playing all three outfield positions, but he has spent the majority of his time (25 games) in centerfield.

The 6-1, 195-pound Rosenberg, Texas native was acquired this past off-season in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels.  He was the Angels 1st round draft selection (24th player overall) in 2009 ahead of Mike Trout.

Grichuk, who wears uniform #15, made his major league debut earlier this season, appearing in nine games for the Cardinals while making four starts and going 3-for-21 with a double and triple.
