Cardinals Announce Details For 2014 Christian Day At The Ballpark

Marcus Luttrell, “Lone Survivor” author and inspiration for the film, selected as keynote speaker

ST. LOUIS, MO (May 14, 2014– The St. Louis Cardinals have announced details for the 24th Annual Christian Day at the Ballpark on Saturday, August 2nd which features a post-game program with keynote speaker Marcus Luttrell, retired Navy SEAL whose bestselling book Lone Survivor inspired the 2013 motion picture of the same name.

Christian Day at the Ballpark is a day of faith, fellowship, and baseball, which begins when the Cardinals take on the Milwaukee Brewers at 6:15 p.m. Following the game, all fans are encouraged to stay for a special post-game program emceed by broadcaster Rick Horton featuring Luttrell and Cardinal players sharing their testimonies in faith.  A popular event every season, past Christian Day events have included featured speakers such as Willie Robertson, Lou Brock, Mike Singletary, Kurt Warner, Tony Dungy, Mike Matheny and Adam Wainwright.

“Christian Day is a wonderful day of faith and baseball that we look forward to every summer. This year we are extremely honored to have Marcus Luttrell joining us at Busch Stadium to share his incredible story,” said Joe Strohm, Vice President of Ticket Sales.

In 2005, during Operation Redwing’s mission to gather intelligence on a Taliban leader with ties to Osama bin Laden, Luttrell’s four-man team of Navy SEALs was ambushed on a remote ridge. Heavily outnumbered, Marcus Luttrell and his teammates valiantly fought for hours, displaying characteristic SEAL determination and bravery, until Luttrell was the last man standing. Badly wounded, it would be five nights after the nightmare began before Luttrell was rescued.

To honor his lost comrades, Luttrell established the Lone Survivor Foundation dedicated to honoring and remembering American warriors by providing unique educational, rehabilitation, recovery and wellness opportunities to U.S. Armed Forces service members and families.
