to sign free autographs on August 29 at the new Glen Carbon Sam’s Club

GLEN CARBON, IL (July 31, 2013) – Sam’s Club and General Mills have announced that they will host a Member Appreciation event at the new Glen Carbon Sam’s Club on Thursday, August 29, from 2 – 4 p.m.  As part of the day’s celebration, St. Louis Cardinals’ legendary relief pitcher Lee Smith will meet with fans and sign free autographs at Sam’s Club, 5 Illini Drive, Glen Carbon.

When Smith retired after 18 seasons in professional baseball, he was the all-time saves leader and one of the most feared pitchers in baseball. He was described as the best one-inning pitcher of all-time and was one of the most intimidating pitchers in his era. In 1991, while pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals, Smith set the National League record with 47 saves and was the runner-up for the league’s Cy Young Award.

“We encourage fans to join us for a fun and exciting day,” said Andy Poole, Club manager of the Glen Carbon location. “This event is our way of thanking the community for their patronage of our numerous clubs in the area. We are excited and look forward to seeing all the smiling faces of Glen Carbon and surrounding communities, as we welcome St. Louis Cardinals’ legend Lee Smith to our new location.”

Sam’s Club will officially open its newest location in Glen Carbon on Thursday, Aug. 29.

Sam’s Club members and guests are welcomed and encouraged to visit the Glen Carbon location at any time throughout the day.  Autographs are limited to one per person and are only guaranteed for the first 120 people in line, but Smith will sign more if time allows.
