Sowing Seeds: Opening the Vault

With the news that Jake Peavy has been dealt to Boston and Cliff Lee appears to be going nowhere, the Cardinals can focus on improving other areas of the team. Erick Aybar of the Angels would be an interesting play at shortstop for the right price, but the trade deadline may be quiet except for another middle infielder. Juan Herrera joins the St. Louis family and will start out in State College as an intriguing future piece.

Michael Wacha solidified his place as the next rotation option but only wearing the Birds on the Bat. It would take the Cards’ front office being blown away to deal any of the top pitching arms or even Kolten Wong at this point. The trade deadline sprints to the finish line this afternoon, and the next offering of the Seedlings will be posted this evening.
