We said yesterday that, more likely than not, Aledmys Diaz will be plying his trade in Memphis to start the year.  Diaz, however, would like to start a different conversation. Diaz raked four hits, including two doubles, in yesterday’s 5-3 win over the Minnesota Twins in Grapefruit League action.  It impressed the manager, as Mike [...]

No look back on the 2011 championship season would be complete without following the progress of David Freese.  Here we see his first game of the year.  I think we remember his last few. Freese-ing Them Out We’ve been waiting for David Freese to get into the ballgame. Apparently, so has he. On a day [...]

It’s one of those rites of spring, one of those signs that baseball is returning.  For the eighth straight year, we’re Playing Pepper!  We’ll ask six questions of bloggers for each major league team as a way of getting familiar with those teams that don’t wear the birds on the bat.  This year, this series will [...]

What’s spring training without a major injury for the Cardinals?  Nobody really knows. Yesterday morning, Jhonny Peralta left camp in street clothes, bound for St. Louis and a second opinion on what the Florida MRI had told him, that he had a tear in his thumb ligament (perhaps he’s been hanging out with Yadier Molina [...]

We take a look at a weekend of games from 2011.  Remember when we had feast or famine offense, instead of mainly just famine? The Name of the Game Is Pitching Three different games, three interesting pitching lines.  Granted, one of them was interesting in the car-wreck sort of way, but it may have a [...]

Peralta Injured

Jhonny Peralta left camp today on his way back to St. Louis. Cards GM John Mozeliak says he will be examined, but initial fears are a thumb tear, keeping Peralta out 2-3 months. More on this later today or tomorrow.

Yesterday, either after the game on FOX Sports Midwest, Sunday morning on KSDK, or for me last night (after finishing up Gateway to Baseball Heaven) on KTHV here in Arkansas, the Cardinals aired their new in-house TV show, Cardinals Insider.  Hosted by Lindsey Weber, who until she took on this project was the blogger liaison (among [...]

Baseball America has a wonderful Prospect Report each day that can be emailed directly to you; it lists what prospects did the previous days. My only issue is it isn’t team specific; you get prospects from every team. Here is what the Cardinal kids did on Sunday: Nationals 5, Cardinals 2 HitterPosABRH2B3BHRRBISB/ATTBBAvg Aledmys DiazSS40000000/00.200 Greg [...]

Our look at 2011 continues with a recap of the first split squad games of that spring.  Man, was I really talking glowingly about Zack Cox?  And it’s good to know that the more things change, the more “resting Molina” means exactly the same thing. One Day, Two Results One of those interesting quirks of [...]
