It’s one of those rites of spring, one of those signs that baseball is returning.  For the eighth straight year, we’re Playing Pepper!  We’ll ask six questions of bloggers for each major league team as a way of getting familiar with those teams that don’t wear the birds on the bat.  This year, this series will [...]

Monday Musings: ESPN Rankings.

Recently, ESPN did it’s yearly top 100 players list, and it ranked two Cardinals back to back. They had Matt Carpenter at 69th, and Trevor Rosenthal at 68th. Two things here: Carpenter 69th? He should be higher. The man is one of baseball’s best players, and adapts to his teams needs better than just anybody. [...]

Expect The…..Expected

As soon as Jhonny Peralta went down with his thumb injury, the Cardinals were linked to Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada.  The Mets had three shortstops and Tejada seemed to be the odd man out.  Of course, as we often see, linking happens whether or not there’s actually any concrete facts involved.  People look at apparent [...]

Cards Sign Tejada

The Cardinals have signed former Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada to a one-year deal. Tejada, who will wear 19, will immediately be the front runner to start at shortstop. More on Gateway tomorrow night and in Monday’s post.

Starting today, there should be almost daily coverage of the minor leaguers in Cardinals camp. In addition to those on the Major League roster, the minor leaguers have started playing games. I’ll list each team first with their opponents score second; the stats come from the Cardinals, so they don’t keep totals for players, like [...]

A New Wrinkle at Short

As the Cardinals played to an 8-8 tie with the Braves yesterday, a potential new member of the club was packing his bags over in Mets camp.  With an abundance of shortstops, the New York nine released Ruben Tejada to save some money on his contract.  With the fact that Jhonny Peralta‘s loss still hangs over [...]
