Cardinals Add Nabil Crismatt, Option Roel Ramirez

JAKE WOODFORD ANNOUNCED AS 29TH MAN FOR DOUBLEHEADER

CHICAGO, Ill., August 17, 2020 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced right-handed pitcher Nabil Crismatt was selected from the Alternate Training Site in Springfield, Mo., and added to the active roster, while right-handed pitcher Roel Ramírez was optioned to the Alternate Training Site, but will remain with the team on the Taxi Squad in Chicago.

Jake Woodford, the Cardinals rookie right-handed pitcher, who started the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the White Sox, has been named the 29th man for tonight’s doubleheader against the Chicago Cubs.

Crismatt, 25, originally signed by the New York Mets as an International Free Agent in 2011, has played with the Mets and Mariners organizations over eight minor league seasons (2012-19) before the Cardinals signed him as a minor league free agent in November 2019.

The Colombian-native from Barranquilla has appeared in 167 games posting a career record of 37-41 with a 3.82 ERA, tossing 641.2 innings with 11 saves and four complete games.  He earned honors at the Double-A level as a Texas League All-Star with Arkansas in 2019 and an Eastern League All-Star with Binghamton in 2018.

Crismatt would be the first pitcher from Colombia to pitch for the Cardinals in their franchise history and the 11th all-time in Major League Baseball, joining 20-year old Luis Patiño of the San Diego Padres, who made his debut earlier this season.  Edgar Renteria, the Cardinals shortstop of 903 games from 1999-2004, is the only other player from Colombia to play for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Crismatt will be active for both games in Chicago tonight at Wrigley Field and would be making his Major League debut when he first appears in a game.  He will wear uniform No. 74.
