Cardinals Recall Garcia and Scruggs From Memphis

RHP MITCH HARRIS AND C ED EASLEY OPTIONED TO MEMPHIS

PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 19, 2015 – The St. Louis Cardinals have recalled infielder Greg Garcia and first baseman Xavier Scruggs from Memphis (AAA) today. Catcher Ed Easley and right‐handed pitcher Mitch Harris were optioned to Memphis following Thursday afternoon’s game in Minnesota.

Garcia, 25, was batting .313 with 25 RBI and a .362 BA with runners in scoring position through 61 games for Memphis, playing primarily at shortstop with 17 starts at second base. He ranked 12th in the Pacific Coast League in batting (.313), 8th in on‐base percentage (.405), T‐9th in walks (31), and was recently named Cardinals Minor League Player of the Month for May after batting .361 during the month. He is making his 2015 debut in St. Louis after appearing in 14 games during the 2014 season batting .143 (2‐14) with one RBI, which came on a game‐ending hit by pitch in a 12th inning pinch‐hit situation against the Chicago Cubs.

Scruggs, 27, is being recalled for the second time this season, appearing in one game as a pinch‐hitter versus Detroit on May 15. The right‐handed slugging first baseman was leading the Redbirds with 11 home runs (T7th PCL) and 35 RBI, while drawing 34 walks (T4th PCL) and posting a .251 batting average over 60 games.

Easley had appeared in two games with an RBI on a sacrifice fly at Colorado on June 8 and caught four innings defensively.

Harris appeared in 16 games with a 1‐1 record and 3.63 ERA over 17.1 innings with nine strikeouts. His first seven Major League appearances were all scoreless.
