FERNANDEZ & SOSA ACTIVATED; SETH ELLEDGE ADDED AS 29TH MAN
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – August 27, 2020– The St. Louis Cardinals have placed left-handed pitcher Andrew Miller on the 10-day Injured List with left shoulder fatigue retroactive to August 24 and activated right-handed pitcher Junior Fernandez from the Injured List to join the Major League roster. Infielder Edmundo Sosa was activated from the Injured List today and will report to the Alternate Training Site in Springfield, Mo.
For today’s doubleheader against the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Seth Elledge from the Alternate Training Site as the 29th man.
Miller, 35, appeared in seven games this season sporting a record of 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA and a team-leading two saves in two opportunities pitching 5.2 innings. The southpaw was last on the Injured List in September 2018 with a left shoulder impingement while as a member of the Cleveland Indians.
Fernandez, 23, appeared in one game for the Cardinals in 2020, tossing a scoreless inning with one strikeout vs. Pittsburgh on July 26.
Elledge, 24, is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three appearances, pitching four innings with striking out eight to rank third among Cardinals relief pitchers in strikeouts. The rookie earned his first Major League win in his last outing on August 20 vs. Cincinnati before being optioned.
Sosa, 24, has yet to play in a 2020 Major League regular season game, but was participating in Summer Camp exhibitions.
