Cards Acquire Veteran Reliever Jonathan Broxton

TEAM SENDS MINOR LEAGUE OUTFIELDER MALIK COLLYMORE TO MILWAUKEE

ST. LOUIS, Mo., July 31, 2015 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have acquired right-handed reliever Jonathan Broxton and cash considerations from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league outfielder Malik Collymore.

Broxton, 31, a two time (2009-10) All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers, is 36-32 career with a 3.25 ERA and 118 saves (18thamong active players).   He’s 1-2 with a 5.89 ERA in 40 games (36.2 IP) with the Brewers this season, including 11 Holds.   The 6-4, 305-pound Broxton is unscored upon in his last seven appearances.  He’s struck out 37 and walked just 10 this season, averaging 9.1 strikeouts/9 IP.

Broxton, who had a career-high 36 saves for the Dodgers in 2009, has appeared in 582 games with the Dodgers (2005-11), Kansas City (2012), Cincinnati (2012-14) and Milwaukee (2014-15).

Collymore was a 10th round draft selection by the Cardinals in 2013 who has been playing for rookie-level Johnson City this season.
