Cardinals Disable Matt Belisle

RELIEVER MARCUS HATLEY PURCHASED FROM MEMPHIS (AAA) ROSTER

ST. LOUIS, Mo., June 30, 2015 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to tonight’s series opener with the Chicago White Sox that they have placed right-handed pitcher Matt Belisle (right elbow inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 26, and have purchased right-handed reliever Marcus Hatley from Memphis (AAA).   To make room for Hatley on the team’s 40-man roster, reliever Jordan Walden has been transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Hatley, 27, will be making his Major League debut with his first game appearance.   The 6-5, 220-pound right-hander was 4-2 with three saves and a 1.69 ERA in 27 games (37.1 IP) for Memphis.   He was near perfect in the month of May, going 2-0 with a 0.55 ERA (16.1 IP/1 ER) in 11 appearances.

Hatley was signed by the Cardinals to a minor league free-agent contract last November after spending eight seasons (2007-14) in the Chicago Cubs organization following his draft selection (39th round, 1,169th player overall) as a draft-and-follow in 2006 out of Palomar (Calif.) College.

Belisle, 35, is currently 2nd on the Cardinals with 12 Holds and he’s 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his 30 games pitched.  The veteran reliever has allowed just one home run in his 30.0 innings pitched while striking out 24.

Hatley has been assigned uniform #67.
