Ankiel and Isringhausen among former Cardinals playing on camper teams; Sutter, McGee, Herzog, Coleman and Brock also taking part
ST. LOUIS, March 10, 2015 – For the second straight year, the Cardinals will hold a Fantasy Camp at Busch Stadium – sponsored by KMOX and the Westin- St. Louis – from June 3-6 giving fans the opportunity to play alongside former Redbirds like Brian Jordan and Jason Isringhausen and interact with the likes of Willie McGee, Whitey Herzog and Bruce Sutter. The camp is an addition to the yearly Cardinals Fantasy Camp held at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida, dating back to 2001.
“The Busch Stadium Fantasy Camp experience is like no other in sports,” said Joe Pfeiffer, Cardinals Fantasy Camp Director. “Campers get to suit up in a personalized uniform at their own locker, select walk-up music, and play baseball on the Busch Stadium field alongside living legends; it doesn’t get much better.”
Throughout the four-day camp, the 44 campers will live the life of a Major Leaguer, receiving instruction from some of the best in baseball and playing four games under the management of a former Cardinal. All four teams, managed by Lou Brock, Whitey Herzog, Bruce Sutter and Willie McGee, will be completely determined by a draft, with the former Cardinal/team manager selecting players. Two former Cardinals will also be drafted onto each roster and will play alongside the rest of the team. Former Cardinals playing alongside the campers include Brian Jordan, Rick Ankiel, Jason Isringhausen, Gary Bennett, Kyle McClellan, Scott Cooper, Cal Eldred and Todd Worrell.
All campers will dress in authentic, personalized Cardinals uniforms and use a customized locker in the visitors’ locker room at Busch Stadium during the round-robin tournament. At the end of the weekend, one team will be crowned Fantasy Camp Champions.
Additional perks include special autograph and photo sessions, party suite tickets to the June 3 Cardinals/Pirates game as the kickoff to camp, and two special dinner events. The first dinner is a Hall of Fame chat with Lou Brock and Bruce Sutter. The following night, the Cardinals will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1985 NL Champion Cardinals with Whitey Herzog, Vince Coleman and Willie McGee. Rick Horton, former Cardinals pitcher and current broadcaster, will serve as master of ceremonies for both dinners. Horton also serves as Fantasy Camp Commissioner, leading the camp along with Scott Terry, Dave LaPoint and Andy Benes.
