Promote Luis Morales to Assistant Director of International Scouting
ST. LOUIS, Mo., December 2, 2014 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have named ChrisCorrea Director of Scouting. In his new position, Correa will oversee the club’s scouting department and the amateur draft.
Correa joined the Cardinals in 2009 working in statistical analysis. He was promoted to Manager of Baseball Development in 2012 and named Director of the department last season, a role in which he provided statistical analysis and decision support tools to all areas of baseball operations.
“Chris has demonstrated he has the skills needed in valuing talent and has been invaluable to our club,” stated Sr. Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. “I know he is looking forward to this opportunity and I’m excited to see him lead our scoutingdepartment.”
Correa, 34, hails from New Hampshire and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Science from Hampshire College. He holds a Master of Science in Psychology from the University of Illinois and was a doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan prior to joining the Cardinals.
In addition, the team has announced the promotion of Luis Morales to Assistant Director of International Scouting. Morales, 31, willwork with Director of International Operations, Moises Rodriguez, on international prospects while operating out of the club’s Palm Beach offices in Florida. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Morales has been with St. Louis since 2011 when he joined the club as an intern. Hewas named Baseball Operations Assistant in 2012. Morales has a Masters degree in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University inMiami and worked for the Cleveland Indians as a Venezuelan Scouting Coordinator for four years before joining the Cardinals organization.
