OUTFIELDER JOEY BUTLER RETURNED TO MEMPHIS (AAA)
ST. LOUIS, Mo., May 21, 2014 – The St. Louis Cardinals today recalled right-handed hitting outfielder Shane Robinson from Memphis (AAA) and outfielder Joey Butler was optioned to the triple-A club following last night’s game.
Robinson, who began the season on the Cardinals Opening Day roster and appeared in 16 games (.100 BA, 2-for-20), was used primarily as a pinch-hitter (11 plate appearances) before being optioned to Memphis on April 27.
In 18 games for the Memphis Redbirds, Robinson batted .371 (23-for-62) with a .443 on-base pct. He was hitting a lofty .524 (11-for-21) against left-handed pitching and had multi-hit games in six of his last eight starts, including a three-hit performance last night at Colorado Springs. Robinson was batting .469 (15-for-32) over that eight-game stretch.
Butler appeared in five games (three as a pinch-hitter) for the Cardinals following his May 9 purchase from Memphis.
