Jason Motte and Cardinals Partner To Strike Out Cancer At Busch

A portion of proceeds from the newly-added Theme Night to benefit local childhood cancer research

ST. LOUIS, MO (May 12, 2014– On Tuesday, September 2nd, the Cardinals and pitcher Jason Motte will join forces to fight cancer during the 2014 Strike Out Cancer Theme Night at Busch.

Fans who purchase the special Strike Out Cancer Theme Ticket will receive a ticket to that night’s game (7:15 p.m. vs. Pittsburgh Pirates) as well as a one-of-a-kind Jason Motte bobblehead featuring the Cardinals pitcher in his popular “K Cancer” t-shirt. Fans may also purchase a VIP ticket for Strike Out Cancer Night which includes a pre-game meet-and-greet with Jason Motte (one autograph per VIP ticket), in addition to the game ticket and bobblehead. A portion of each ticket sold will benefit childhood cancer research in St. Louis.

“Fan support for the Strike Out Cancer effort has been amazing,” said Cardinals pitcher Jason Motte. “I’m really looking forward to our night at the ballpark as it promises to be a nice way to honor cancer survivors, support those still fighting their battle, and remember those we have lost.”

What began in 2010 as a small idea to provide support for cancer patients has evolved into the mission of the Jason Motte Foundation led by Jason and his wife Caitlin. In addition to the Theme Night and hosting annual fundraisers in Memphis, Tennessee, the Foundation partnered with locally-based t-shirt company 108 Stitches last year to produce a “K Cancer” t-shirt which benefits the cause. Earlier this year, Jason and 108 Stitches rolled out t-shirts league-wide in every team’s colors. Each t-shirt is promoted by a different player who agreed to join Motte’s effort. For each shirt sold, $5 will go to the Jason Motte Foundation and $5 to a charity of that player’s choice.

“At the end of the day, we’re just trying to get the word out and raise money to help,” said Motte. “I’m fortunate to have this platform and to be able to do my part to give back.”

About the Jason Motte Foundation

The mission of the Jason Motte Foundation is to provide comfort and care where there is a need for those affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancers of all kinds. The seed for the Jason Motte Foundation was planted in the fall of 2010 when Jason and Caitlin Motte asked, “what can we do to help?” At the time, Caitlin’s grandfather, Lynn Doyle, was a cancer patient at The West Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee. Jason and Caitlin saw a sign that mentioned a need for blankets and wondered what more they could do to help. That question led to the formation of the Strike Out Cancer with Jason Motte Foundation. The Motte family uses the monies raised towards research all while providing comfort and care where there is a need for those affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancers of all kinds.
