Just a brief post today given the fact there’s already some good stuff up and I’m on a little bit of a crunch. I couldn’t help but put myself in the shoes of Reds fans on Sunday night and wonder what in the world Dusty Baker was thinking throughout that game. I’m talking about his overall management of the game (bunting and bullpen use) more specifically. Others have written about this very game in the recent couple days with similar view points. Derrick Robinson‘s two bunts along with the non double switch with Chapman in the 9th really helped the Cardinals cause. I hope Mike Matheny was taking notes because Dusty Baker put on a clinic with the topic being manager missteps Sunday night at GABP.
So anyway, after a 6-4 stretch against 3 tough teams (Giants, D-Backs, and Reds) the Cardinals have a 10 game stretch that includes 3 in NY against the Mets, 3 in Mia against the Marlins and then back home for 4 against the Cubs. Wins don’t come easy regardless of the opponent, but the Cardinals have a real opportunity to stack some here. The game tonight features Michael Wacha vs. Jeremy Hefner who pitched against the Cardinals in the 1st series at Busch in a 6-3 Cardinals win. Here’s how the Cardinals have fared against him:
