Top Cards on Twitter 2019: 11-15

Welcome back to our afternoon post looking at the next chunk of Top Cards on Twitter.  This section also has a lot of media types, which I guess it to be expected with their reach.  Let’s find out which ones!

Zach got back into the Twitter mix this year and the discourse was better for it.  We didn’t get any more posts from him (that I can see on the Birds on the Black) but it’s generally known Zach is as insightful and knowledgeable as anyone else out there.  We don’t get to hear from him enough on things, honestly, but follow him on Twitter and you’ll get some gems sent your way.

We talked this morning about Jenifer Langosch’s slide down the standings due to being promoted off the Cardinal beat.  Anne was dubbed her replacement and, after graduating from Missouri, took over the job this summer.  There’s still a bit of a “getting to know you” period with Anne and she has huge shoes to fill, not only from Jenifer but from the OG beat writer, Matthew Leach.  Given that she’s writing for the official site, though, you should definitely be following to stay informed.

Number 13: markasaxon
Senior MLB writer for The Athletic, covering the St. Louis Cardinals

I’ve found Mark to be a pretty good follow.  Of course, he’s writing interesting articles for The Athletic, but he seems pretty good about interacting with folks on Twitter as well.  Plus he doesn’t take himself terribly seriously, at least to my mind.  I am sure that he would have moved up even farther in the rankings, but I imagine being associated with Allen Medlock and I (he guested on Meet Me at Musial in January) probably drug him down.

Number 12: TheCatOnFox

The master of regional cable journalism, Jim Hayes is a regional treasure.  He’s got great rapport with players and front office types, which tends to lead to more relaxed interviews, especially in pre-game settings.  You can hear The Cat on the radio in the mornings and his Cat Chats podcast (which took a much-too-long hiatus) help you get to know the players, coaches, and others related to the Cardinals on a more personal level.  Still wants to return to his hardwood coaching glory, however–just can’t let that go.

It’s amazing how far the official account has come since we spent some time complaining about it a few years back.  Back then, you’d have never seen the average rating be over eight or have more than half the voters give it a 10.  While it’s still not to the Rockies level, the Cardinals account has shown much more personality and will engage more than ever before.  It’s not just lineups and game recaps anymore and the Twittersphere is better because of it.

Just 10 more!  Come back tomorrow and we’ll finish everything up!
