Professional Baseball Player, Sam Tuivailala, Dedicates Two Weeks of the Season to Help Fight Poverty in the Dominican Republic.

St. Louis, MO. July 9, 2018 –  St. Louis Cardinals player, Sam Tuivailala, is stepping up to share his passion for helping underdeveloped countries by raising awareness to provide communities with clean water, food, medical aid, and more. He’s set out to educate people on the harsh realities of poverty, specifically in the Dominican Republic, alongside Athletes Brand and Food for the Hungry’s MLB initiative, Striking Out Poverty.

Striking Out Poverty is a foundation that encourages an impoverished community’s success and wellbeing by revoking their sense of vulnerability and providing them with transformative resources.

This campaign will benefit La Cuneta, which is a resilient, strong community that is living below the extreme poverty level. With 100 farms within two miles of the village, Sam will focus on providing a baseball field at the center to bring the community together, and specialized training for the neighboring farmers so that they can strategically grow crops to more efficiently feed their families and also have thriving businesses. While they have running water in their homes, they do not have clean water, so Sam will also try to raise enough money to provide a clean water facility for 1,000 people in their community.

The limited-edition “Unity” T-shirt can be purchased at AthletesBrand.com from Monday July 9th, 2018, until July 23rd, 2018. The first 64 people who buy shirts, Sam will personally send a signed baseball to. The shirts are available in men’s, women’s and youth sizes. All proceeds go to the Striking Out Poverty foundation.
