Top Cards on Twitter 2016: 1-5

Let it never be said that I would do things succinctly when a week-long post series would suffice.  You’ve gone through the rest now here, according to the voters, are the best.

I’d like to think that it was pairing up with me on Meet Me At Musial that sent John’s stock soaring, but that’d be underselling what he brings to the table (and be fairly silly, since he’s the strong half of the show).  When you want to know something, anything about the Cardinals minor league system, you should check out what John’s written, either on Twitter or at KangarooCourtSTL.  Chances are, you’ll come away much enlightened about the state of the minors.

As most anyone knows, Jenifer is the beat writer that covers the Cardinals for MLB.com and, as such, is a vital follow on Twitter.  Breaking news, lineups, and general thoughts about the team can be found on her timeline.  I’m not sure how much she interacts with folks asking questions, but there’s plenty of good stuff to be found here.

Number 3: BirdsOnTheBat13

There may not be a more relentlessly positive Cardinal account out there than BOTB.  Positive is not exactly what you expect from Twitter, but you’ll get it in spades here.  RTs of anything Cardinal related plus a lot of positive original Tweets as well.  If you want to make sure you see something from Cardinal Nation, chances are it’s going to show up here.

Number 2: dgoold
Lead Cardinals beat writer for St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Proud father. Bookworm. Lapsed cartoonist. World Record-holding INF. Friendly neighborhood word slinger.

If you want to keep up to date with what’s going on with the club, Derrick Goold is the person to follow.  Like Jenifer Langosch, you’ll find the breaking news here, but you’ll also get some analysis and some general thoughts on what is going on.  Derrick will occasionally interact with questioners, though he directs them to the Post-Dispatch whenever possible.  He also regularly RTs other work at the P-D, so you can keep up with it all through his account.

(Author’s note: Last year, those that participated graciously ranked me number one overall and while I didn’t count those votes for the total rankings, I did include myself on this year’s list, in part to see where I’d wind up.  Yes, a bit of hubris probably could be credited there, but given last year’s totals, I felt it fair.  This year, if I were to include myself in the actual rankings, I’d have wound up right here.  679 points on 37 ballots, three of which ranked me first.  Again, I’m humbled and honored that people think that much of my Twitterings.  Thank you!)

To say that mockery, sarcasm, and a sharp wit drip from every tweet of StlCardsCards might be a bit of an overstatement.  More likely, though, it’s really an understatement.  The man known as Bruno suffers no fools, throwing jabs at friends and foes alike.  Whether it’s that, the fact that he’s got some good opinions about the Cards (as he occasionally jots down on his blog) or he pays people well, he dominated in the category of “first place votes”, coming in first on about a quarter of the ballots.  CardsCards can be a challenging follow, but it’s usually worth it.

Thanks again to everyone that participated in this again this year.  As I’ve noted before, I’ll try to come up with some better ways to do this in the future to as to hopefully allow for more folks to get farther up the list.  For now, though, go out and give these folks a follow if you aren’t already!
