Registration Open for Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic on June 7

27th Annual Cardinals Care Golf Tournament Raises Money for Area Children Participating in MLB’s RBI Program

ST. LOUIS, Mo., May 5, 2016 – Registration is underway for the 27th Annual Cardinals Care Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic scheduled for Tuesday, June 7, at the Norman K. Probstein Golf Course in Forest Park.

Former Cardinal outfielder Ted Savage started the tournament in 1990 to help kids in the St. Louis community who participate in the Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) Program.  RBI is a Major League Baseball youth outreach program designed to increase participation in baseball among underserved youth, encourage academic achievement and preparation, promote greater inclusion of minorities into the game and teach the value of teamwork.

“The Ted Savage RBI Golf Classic is a day of golf, good times and giving back,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care.  “We hope fans can come out to the course and enjoy a round of golf knowing they’re fostering the growth of young ballplayers on and off the field.”

Each foursome will be paired with a former Cardinals player or St. Louis celebrity.  The tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. and features prizes for first, second and third place teams, closest to pin and longest drive.  In addition to donuts, coffee, juice, beer, soda, water, snacks and lunch, each participant will go home with a goody bag.

Cardinals Care was established to give fans a way of teaming up with Cardinals players and the organization to help children in our community – both on and off the baseball field.  Since it was established in 1997, Cardinals Care has invested over $21 million to support St. Louis area children and built 21 youth ball fields in local under-resourced neighborhoods.  This year marks the 13th year of Cardinals Care’s innovative Redbird Rookies program, a free baseball league for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play.  In addition to providing all the uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts for each of the nearly 4,500 kids who participate in the program each year.
