Getting Some Payback

Since the Springfield Cardinals share a field with Missouri State, the St. Louis farm system started off Day 3 of the Draft by taking away some competition from MSU. The Cardinals took two High School pitchers in the 11th and 12th round and both are committed to colleges in Arkansas.

The all-important 11th round typically sees harder to sign players grabbed when the bonus money doesn’t impact the pool. The Cards chose Paul Salazar out of a Texas High School, and the RHP has signed with Arkansas-Little Rock. It appears that St. Louis is going more athletic overall this year, as Salazar lists his primary position as 3B.

Going back home for Round 12, the Cardinals nabbed LHP Jacob Schlesener from Logan-Rogersville HS. He was tied to the Razorbacks early in the recruiting process and certainly is no easy sign at this point in the draft.
