Cards Acquire Michael Ohlman From Orioles

2013 CAROLINA LEAGUE (A) BATTING CHAMP ACQUIRED FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS

ST. LOUIS, Mo., February 3, 2015 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have acquired right-handed hitting catcher Michael Ohlman from the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for cash considerations.

Ohlman, 24, has been a member of the Orioles organization since being drafted (11th round) in 2009 out of Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton, Fla.  The 6-5, 215-pound catcher was named the Orioles 9th best prospect by Baseball America in 2013 after hitting a career and Carolina League-best .313 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI for Frederick (A) while also garnering Topps Carolina League Player of the Year honors.   He batted .290 later that year in the prospect-laden Arizona Fall League, as his Surprise team won the AFL Championship.

Ohlman owns a .254 career average with 24 home runs and 206 RBI in 465 games in the minors.   He batted .236 in 113 games with Bowie (AA) in 2014.

Ohlman’s acquisition puts the Cardinals Major League roster at 39 players, as he joins Yadier Molina, Tony Cruz, Ed Easley and Cody Stanley among catchers currently on the team’s 40-man roster.
