Welcome to High Sock Sunday

About two years ago, my fresh-starting journalism career took me away from a passion of mine — blogging about the St. Louis Cardinals.

It was always a goal of mine to get back to providing commentary about the Redbirds, and I waited for the right time to get back to it. I was fortunate to land a job at my hometown newspaper that provides me with a schedule conducive for blogging on the side.

That said, I’m happy to join the Card Conclave with my new blog “High Sock Sunday.”

Some of you may remember me from my old blog, Redbird Report. I hope you continue reading my commentary in this forum and I welcome all the new readers that will make their way over here.

I aim to provide honest discourse on the team and the organization. Sometimes things will be complimentary and other times you can expect criticism when it’s warranted. I’ll also aim to bring more of a journalistic approach to the blog, which means you can expect a fair amount of news here. On top of that, I’ll do my best to delve into the goings on of this team and examine how the sabermetrics are playing out and attempt to interpret what those could mean down the road.

As you can tell by the name of this blog, I’m a fan of some of the more minuscule aspects of baseball, and particularly this team. Sundays are a holiday for this blog, and we certainly appreciate anyone who can wear the high socks well.

For those of you wondering about the man behind the blog, my name is Cole Claybourn. I grew up a Cardinals fan in Evansville, Ind., and that’s where I currently reside. I’m a graduate of Western Kentucky University’s journalism school and I work as an online content producer for the Evansville Courier & Press, so I’ll also try to bring some of those skills to this blog as well.

You can follow High Sock Sunday on Twitter, @HighSock_Sunday (Joe Kelly does!) and/or my personal account if you’d like, @ColeClaybourn. You can reach me by email at highsocksunday@gmail.com.

Thanks to Daniel Shoptaw for reaching out to me and welcoming me to the Cards Conclave. I’m looking forward to getting started.

We’re going to have some fun.
