Last year, I spent the time immediately after the season examining each player that had made an appearance in St. Louis during the season. This series was well received and so I’m bringing this idea back for the 2013 offseason. More summaries than anything, I imagine the player coming into Mike Matheny‘s office and having a short conference before heading home for the winter. Stats are just the ones accumulated for the Cardinals during the regular season.

Player: Jermaine Curtis
Season stats: 5 games, 5 PA, 1 BB, 1 K, .000/.400/.000
Hero/Goat: None
Overall grade: C-
Positives: Curtis got a cup of coffee with the Cardinals mainly for being a good guy in the system. He had another pretty good season at Memphis, though nothing that was outstanding. However, Curtis had been in the system since 2008, so it was a good way to reward a loyal employee.
Negatives: Curtis is still looking for his first big league hit and never got anything more than pinch-hitting opportunities. Curtis hasn’t done enough to break through the coming log jam in the outfield, either.
Outlook: Assuming the Cardinals don’t need the room on the 40-man roster, Curtis will probably take his place in Memphis again next season. If he has to be removed from there, it seems fairly likely he clear waivers and wind up back there anyway. Hopefully he can find a way to get back to the big leagues and get that base hit.
