Last year, I spent the time immediately after the season examining each player that had made an appearance in St. Louis during the season. This series was well received and so I’m bringing this idea back for the 2013 offseason. More summaries than anything, I imagine the player coming into Mike Matheny‘s office and having a short conference before heading home for the winter. Stats are just the ones accumulated for the Cardinals during the regular season.

Player: Adron Chambers
Season stats: 25 games, 29 PA, 5 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 3 BB, 11 K, .154/.241/.192
Hero/Goat: Goat 1
Overall grade: C-
Positives: Chambers always brought energy to the club, at least when he was in St. Louis and not in Memphis. He seemed like a fun personality looking from a distance. His speed made him a good pinch-running candidate as well as a nice defensive replacement in the outfield.
Negatives: Unfortunately, Chambers never could hit in the big leagues. He’s been overwhelmed, striking out in 30% of his plate appearances. He also hasn’t been able to harness his speed. In three partial season (if you count that week or so in 2011 he was up), Chambers stole two bases (both in 2012) and has been caught twice. When a man has three triples in 88 at-bats, you’d think he could steal a few bags.
Outlook: Chambers was released after the season and most likely will have to get a minor league contract with some organization. If nothing else, though, Cardinal fans will always remember him fondly.
