Down on the Farm: Mostly Day Game Edition

Sundays are great. The Cardinals wear their snazzy alternate Sunday caps and most of the games are played during the day so you can get your info before it gets too late in the day. Whoo hoo (kinda)!

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Won 11-5 over Iowa

So Chad Huffman has been a stud lately, and added two more home runs today (along with three hits and three RBI). Keith Butler had to make an emergency start and Blazek, Freeman, Rondon, and Salas had to help in relief. Since Omaha won today as well, the Redbirds are still stuck two games back in the American Northern Division with eight games to go.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Lost 10-8 to Tulsa

Springfield got down 10-5 in the seventh inning and couldn’t quite complete the comeback, even while scoring late in the game. James Ramsey stayed hot, going 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Piscotty, Scruggs and Gotay also added two hits apiece. The Drillers drilled Richard Castillo for five runs in five innings and got five more off of Danny Miranda (who took the loss).

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Lost 2-1 to Bradenton (11 innings)

The Cardinals were held to just seven hits and Jesus Montero was the only one with multiple hits (2). Alex Mejia drove in the lone RBI. Kyle Hald had a good start, pitching seven innings and only allowing one run. Iden Nozario gave up the go-ahead run for Bradenton in the top of the 11th to take the loss.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Lost 9-1 to Cedar Rapids

Peoria had some offensive struggles too as Cedar Rapids held the Chiefs to five hits. Trevor Martin had two hits and even a triple to boot, but no one could drive him in. Cory jones gave up five runs in 3.1 innings and the committee behind him wasn’t much better.

State College Spikes (A): Won 10-5 over Auburn

State College didn’t have any troubles with the bats, scoring 10 runs in another win over Auburn. Brett Wiley hit a double, triple, two RBI and even scored twice. Carson Kelly added two more hits, including a homer. Kevin Herget allowed four ER in five innings but the offense was able to help him earn the win. With the win, the Spikes now have ten straight wins, a new club record.

Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie): Won 4-1 over Danville

Justin Ringo and Ronnierd Garcia both went 2-4 with an RBI for JC. Michael Holback started but was removed before recording an out (I’ll assume it was because of injury, JCC doesn’t have an online recap to check). Brandon Lee, Kyle Grana, and Fernando Baez pitched a scoreless nine after Holback was taken out. Also, it’s a bit late, but Rowan Wick, Bryan Vaughn and Kenny Peoples-Walls got elected to Appalachian League All-Star Game! Congrats!

GCL Cardinals (Rookie): Did not play

DSL Cardinals (Rookie): Did not play

Though the big club’s series with the Braves didn’t end so well, at least taking three of four from the best team in baseball is encouraging, right? Time to get down to business against the Reds and Pirates. Good baseball ahead and as always, PREACH ON, my friends!
