Down on the Farm: Sharknado Edition

Hope you all enjoyed the game tonight. If you didn’t, I really hope you enjoyed Sharknado. It’s probably going to win “Best Picture” in the next Oscars. You heard it here first.

More to the point, here are some stories on your baby birds have surfaced lately, and if you haven’t seen them yet, check ‘em out.

Here’s what happened in the games

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Won 4-3 over Iowa

The Redbirds take another game from the Cubs, this time on a ninth-inning comeback. Brock Peterson went 2-4 and drove in an RBI and Greg Garcia had two hits as well. Chad Huffman pinch-hit for pitcher Keith Butler and drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly in the 9th. Butler earned the win and Salas earned the save.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Won 3-2 over NW Arkansas

As a Mizzou guy, I certainly now enjoy beating up on teams from Arkansas, but this one went down-to-the-wire as well. The Cardinals won it with the longball, with Ruben Gotay and Xavier Scruggs both going yard. Zach Petrick went just over six innings and gave up a couple runs, but earned the win. Lee Stoppelman got the save.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Lost 5-3 to Burlington

The Chiefs left 14 runners on base and were pretty much out of commission since the seventh inning. Burlington would add two runs in the top of the 13th and take it from there. On a positive note, Charlie Tilson and Breyvic Valera both went 3-6.

State College Spikes (A): Won 4-3 over Williamsport (11 innings)

Another walk-off win for the Spikes comes in the 11th inning of tonight’s game. Jimmy Bosco was the hero driving in the winning run from third. Jhonny Polanco ended up with the win after three stellar innings in relief.

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Won 6-3 over St. Lucie

Brand new 2013 first-round draft pick Marco Gonzalez started for PB and threw four shutout innings. Patrick Wisdom went 2-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Johnson City Cardinals (A): Won 7-4 over Burlington

Deuces wild for Rowan Wick, with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI. The team as a whole knocked 14 hits. Blake McKnight got the win and Fernando Baez got the save.

GCL Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 7-6 to GCL Nationals

DSL Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 7-4 to DSL Yankees (August 21)

Another fun night for the big club, though our boy Wong struck out in his only AB. As always, PREACH ON, my friends!
