Anthony Garcia has a big day – 6/3/13 Farm Report

The Baby Birds went 2-1 on Monday as Springfield had the night off, traveling back from Midland, Texas. The big story of the night was the play of Anthony Garcia. Garcia was a single away from a cycle. Garcia, whose average had dipped below .180, hit his first home run since late April. The Palm Beach offense needs Garcia to get back on track. Danny Miranda is quietly having a very solid season out of the Palm Beach bullpen. Miranda has missed about a month of the season but has put together a 16 inning scoreless streak to start the season. Mitchell Boggs started for Memphis – not sure what the deal is there- and pitched very effectively, only allowing 2 hits over 2 innings.

Here are the results from Monday’s action:

Memphis (30-27) 7, Omaha 1

The Memphis Redbirds have won their third in a row over Omaha. The top of the Redbirds’ order was rolling on Monday. Ryan Jackson finished the night going 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored, his 3rd home run, and an RBI. Justin Christian, out of the 2 spot, went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored. The 3 hitter, Brock Peterson add 2 hits, a run, and 2 RBI. Greg Garcia also made his first real contribution in a while going 3-for-4 with 2 doubles. The Redbirds’ catcher, Rob Johnson, also added 2 hits and 2 RBI.

Mitchell Boggs made the start and pitched 2 scoreless innings while allowing 2 hits and striking out 2. Sam Freeman picked up his 4th win with 3 scoreless innings. The Cardinals Pitcher of the Month in May, Kevin Siegrist, allowed a run over 2 innings with 1 strikeout. Marc Rzepczynski closed it out with 2 scoreless innings.

The Palm Beach Cardinals had a big game from Anthony Garcia. Garcia, who has been in a deep deep slump, went 3-for-4 with a single shy of the cycle. The Chiefs, who had won 4 in a row prior to yesterday, returned to the W column on Monday. In his last 10 games, Valera is hitting .426 with 7 runs and 9 RBI and had a 3-for-5 day with 3 runs, a double, and a RBI. He also has a 6-game RBI streak. Jordan Walton produced nicely from the clean up spot. Walton finished the day 3-for-5 with a double and 4 RBI’s. Ildemaro Vargas went 2-for-3 with a run, double, triple, and 2 RBI.
