Now hitting eighth for the Conclave, the pitcher…

Yeah, yeah, I’m the crazy one.  “Why in the name of Tony La Russa would you want a pitcher to hit eighth in a Major League lineup?”

Well, I’m glad you asked.  Because I wrote a lot about it once.

I started Pitchers Hit Eighth in May of 2008 after finally moving far enough north (it was a slow progression from the St. Louis area) to be outside of any regular broadcast area for the Cardinals.  Taking the plunge on an MLB.tv subscription has foisted many of my thoughts onto you unsuspecting readers of PH8, and for that I apologize.  With any sort of luck, you loyal three readers will be able to find much more worth reading amongst the other great writers here at Cards Conclave.

I’ve spent more time than I care to admit learning about some of the current statistical evaluation models of baseball, and would be the first to admit to using them inappropriately on more than one occasion.  I’ll try to keep that to a minimum, I promise.  In the meantime, I also can’t resist the allure of a “hot streak” and/or the value of wearing a garter belt and breathing through your eyes while pitching.

Writing PH8, meeting the folks involved in this project Cards Conclave, and experiencing some of the things that writing has afforded me have all been very humbling experiences for a guy who was just trying desperately to reconnect with his hometown ball club.  I’m looking forward to this next chapter, here at The Conclave, and I know Josh is too…

Thanks, as always, for reading.  Welcome to Cards Conclave.
