‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ Talent Video Contest Returns

Fans Challenged to Demonstrate Singing Talent for #CardsFanFlix Video Promotion

Winner to Receive VIP Experience to Cardinals Game & Have Video Shown On Busch Scoreboard

ST. LOUIS, Mo., March 27, 2017 – The St. Louis Cardinals have launched the second annual Take Me Out To The Ballgame Talent Video Contest encouraging fans to submit videos of them singing their best rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”  The winning video, which will be selected by a fan vote, will be shown on the scoreboard at Busch Stadium before the Cardinals—Rockies game on Wednesday, July 26.  The winner will also be treated to a VIP experience that includes 12 tickets to the game.

Participating fans in the Take Me Out to the Ballgame Talent Video Contest are asked to create a video up to three minutes in length.  While fans must respect copyright laws and keep things in good taste, they are encouraged to be creative, show off their talent and convey their enthusiasm for the St. Louis Cardinals.  Fans can submit a video via Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo or any other public platform, but in order to be eligible for the contest they must provide the Cardinals a link to the video and complete a short submission form on the contest web page.

“We are encouraging all fans, including church choirs, school groups, and local bands and musicians to share their creativity with their version of this baseball classic,” said Ron Watermon, Vice President of Communications.  “We want fans to have fun putting their own fresh mark on this classic song that embodies what we all love about the game of baseball.”

“Take Me Out to the Ball Game” was played at a Major League ballpark for the first time prior to Game 4 of the 1934 World Series in St. Louis at Sportsman’s Park by Pepper Martin and his Marvelous Musical Mississippi Mudcats Band.  It became commonplace in the 7th inning when Harry Caray popularized it with the Chicago White Sox in the 1970s.

The second annual Take Me Out to the Ballgame Talent Video Contest, which runs through Sunday, May 21, is one of several#CardsFanFlix fan engagement initiatives the St. Louis Cardinals have undertaken to encourage fans to create videos that celebrate the team.  Elementary school children from nearby Germantown, Illinois, who share the same hometown as Red Schoendienst, won the inaugural Take Me Out To The Ballgame contest in 2015 after saluting the Hall of Famer with their creative rendition during the season-long #LoveRed2 campaign.

Over the last three seasons, hundreds of fans have collectively participated in a number of #CardsFanFlix video engagement promotions including three Ultimate Fan Contests, two High School Student Video Challenges, the Cardinals Treasure Hunt Fan Contest, the Molina #Made4TheBest Fan Video Contest, the #PlayBallLikeACardinal video initiative, the Ultimate Fan Broadcaster Contest, Greatest Postseason Moments Contest, the team’s season-long campaigns celebrating Hall of Famers Red Schoendienst and Lou Brock (#STLisLou).
