7th Annual Cardinals Care 6K, One Mile Fun Run To Take Place Sunday, Sept. 18

Honorary Chair Jackie Joyner-Kersee Returns To Team Up with Runners to Support Kids in the Cardinals Community

ST. LOUIS, Mo., May 11, 2016 – Registration is underway for the 7th annual Cardinals Care 6K (#CardsCare6K) and One Mile Fun Run set for Sunday, September 18, 2016.  The yearly Cardinals Care fundraiser benefits St. Louis area youth.

“It’s very rewarding to annually honor Stan Musial’s legacy with the Cardinals Care 6K,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care.  “Thanks to the support of race participants, we’ve put more than a half million dollars back into our local community.”

The 6K run – named in honor of legendary Hall of Famer, the late Stan Musial – starts at 8:06 a.m. at the Stan Musial statue outside Busch Stadium’s Gate 3, and winds around the city for a photographic finish on the field.  Runners will be greeted after the finish line by 6K honorary chair and Olympic Gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee.  All participants will receive a voucher for two (2) Cardinals tickets during the 2017 regular season, a commemorative t-shirt and medal or ribbon.

The One Mile Fun Run begins immediately following the start of the 6K, and finishes outside Busch Stadium at the Stan Musial statue on 8th Street.  Participants and spectators are encouraged to show their support and join the crowd inside to watch the completion of the 6K for free.

Fundraising is optional this year, and great incentives are available for runners who make efforts to raise additional funds for Cardinals Care.  Participants can solicit donations to their online fundraising profile through email, Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets.  All proceeds from the fitness fundraising event, which has raised more than $600,000 over the last six years, go to help kids in the community.

Cardinals Care is offering gifts for race participants to thank them for their fundraising efforts, including a chance for the top fundraising team to be recognized during an on-field ceremony prior to a 2017 Cardinals Game, while the top individual fundraiser will throw out a ceremonial pitch prior to the game.  New in 2016, a cumulative incentive awards program will be introduced for outstanding fundraising efforts, which will offer runners greater rewards for more money raised.  Those interested in participating are encouraged to learn more and register at cardinals.com/6K.
