Fans can join Martinez and his teammates on Thursday, June 11, at the Flamingo Bowl in St. Louis for the charitable event

ST. LOUIS, June 2, 2015 – On Thursday, June 11, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez will host a charity bowling fundraiser at Flamingo Bowl in St. Louis to raise money for underprivileged youth. The “Tsunami Celebrity Bowl Fundraiser” is a way for fans to have fun while raising money for youth-focused charities in St. Louis and Martinez’s native Dominican Republic.

“St. Louis fans really love their Cardinals and I’m so thankful for their support,” said Carlos Martinez. “The bowling fundraiser is a way for me to give back to our fans and inspire kids in two communities that are important to me.”

The fundraiser takes place on Thursday, June 11, from 6 – 10 p.m. at the Flamingo Bowl on Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis. A variety of tickets are available for fans, including general admission, VIP and a limited number of bowler tickets which allow fans to bowl alongside Martinez and his teammates. Pricing and sponsorship information as well as tickets are available at Eventbrite.com.

The event includes red carpet arrivals, a VIP reception, silent auction, raffle and bowling challenge. More than $15,000 in auction and raffle items will be awarded to attendees during the event.

Proceeds from the event benefit Tsunami Waves in St. Louis and the G.O. Ministries organization in the Dominican Republic. To learn more about Martinez’s mission to give back, visit his blog at carlosmartineztsunami.mlblogs.com.

“Whether it’s partnering with Cardinals Care, or working on his own initiatives, Carlos has been very active in our community this year,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations & Executive Director of Cardinals Care. “We’re very fortunate to have his enthusiasm and passion for helping others.”

Cardinals Care was established to give fans a way of teaming up with Cardinals players and the organization to help children in our community – both on and off the baseball field. Since it was established in 1997, Cardinals Care has invested nearly $21 million to support St. Louis area children and built 21 youth ball fields in local under-resourced neighborhoods. 2015 marks the 12th year of Cardinals Care’s innovative Redbird Rookies program, a free baseball league for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play. In addition to providing all the uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts for each of the nearly 4,500 kids who participate in the program each year.
