6th Annual Cardinals Care 6K and One Mile Fun Run To Take Place Sunday, September 13

Honorary Chair Jackie Joyner-Kersee teams up with runners to support kids in the Cardinals community

ST. LOUIS, April 3, 2015 – Registration is underway for the 6th annual Cardinals Care 6K (#CardsCare6K) and One Mile Fun Run set forSunday, September 13, 2015. The yearly Cardinals Care fundraiser benefits area youth.

“It’s a special year for the Stan Musial 6K which pays tribute to our legendary Number 6,” said Michael Hall, Vice President of Community Relations and Executive Director of Cardinals Care. “Not only is it our 6th year of hosting the fundraiser run, but the event just surpassed the $600,000 fundraising mark in our efforts to support kids in our local community.”

The 6K run – named in honor of the late Stan Musial – starts at 8:06 a.m. at the Stan Musial statue outside Busch Stadium’s Gate 3, and winds around the city for a photographic finish on the field. Runners will be greeted after the finish line by 6K honorary chair, Olympic medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee. All run participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and medal.

The One Mile Fun Run begins immediately following the start of the 6K and finishes outside Busch Stadium at the Stan Musial statue on 8th Street. Participants and spectators are encouraged to show their support and join the crowd inside to watch the completion of the 6K for free.

All participants have until September 4, 2015, to raise $75. Participants can solicit donations to their online fundraising profile through email, Facebook, Twitter and other social media outlets.  All proceeds from the fitness fundraising event that has raised more than $600,000 over the last five years go to help kids in our community. Those interested in participating are encouraged to learn more and register atcardinals.com/6K.

Again in 2015, Cardinals Care is offering gifts for race participants to thank them for their fundraising efforts, including a chance for the top fundraising team to be recognized during an on-field ceremony prior to the September 22nd game vs. the Cincinnati Reds, while the top individual fundraiser will throw out a ceremonial pitch prior to the game.

Cardinals Care was established to give fans a way of teaming up with Cardinals players and the organization to help children in our community – both on and off the baseball field. Since it was established in 1997, Cardinals Care has distributed nearly $21 million to support St. Louis area non-profit youth organizations and built 21 youth ball fields in local under-resourced neighborhoods. 2015 marks the 12th year of Cardinals Care’s innovative Redbird Rookies program, a free baseball league for kids who otherwise might not have the opportunity to play. In addition to providing all the uniforms, gloves, bats, balls and other equipment needed for each team, Redbird Rookies also provides extensive off-field support in the areas of health, education, mentoring and the cultural arts for each of the nearly 4,500 kids who participate in the program each year.
