A Fastball To The Face…

Sorry for the lack of posts of late. I’m working on getting back to posting at least every other day, but it’s slow season and plus life gets in the way sometimes…

Like last Thursday.

Ever have one of those days, where not everything goes wrong, but one or two *BIG* things goes wrong, and ruins that day, and the days that follow?

Thursday was kind of like that.

I had my cell phone stolen at work, and we were unable to recover it.

Then when I got home, I had a seizure, which caused me to fall into a metal drawer face first, making it look like I took a fastball to the face. Luckily nothing was broken, but I have a nice black eye.

This is why I miss baseball. I wish right now there was a game to discuss, something to take my mind off of the fact that my driving schedule has been reset (I’ve mentioned this in the past: I have to be six months seizure free before I can drive.) Or the fact that I had my phone downgraded, and won’t be able to upgrade for a while.

Add to that my cable TV cut out last night, and I was in desperate need of a distraction.

Luckily I had one, thanks to C70. A week or two ago he sent me a copy of the 2011 World Series game six DVD, which I hadn’t gotten around to watching yet. With my wife at church and literally nothing on tv (and an intermittent internet connection to boot) I loaded up the DVD and enjoyed the memories. The only way it could’ve been better was if it had captioning, but I managed.

I’d forgotten how good this game was.

I’d forgotten that while David Freese was the hero in the end, the overall hero of the game might’ve been Lance Berkman. (Man I miss him…any chance Mabry needs another assistant hitting coach?)

I’d forgotten that this game had its warts too, with five errors, three by the Cards and two by the Rangers. Even with that though, it was a great game.

I’d forgotten how funny Lance Lynn looked with long hair.

I’d forgotten that even back then, Jason Motte had a huge beard.

I’d forgotten that we had a utility player overload on that team: Daniel Descalso, Nick Punto and Skip Schumaker off the top of my head. Tony loved having options didn’t he?

And I’d forgotten the pure, unbridled joy I (and every other Cards fan) felt when Freese homered.

So thank you C70, for that trip down memory lane, and for giving me a distraction when I sorely needed one.

As always, thanks for reading.

Always glad to oblige. Baseball has a way of helping us through the hard times. Glad I finally got around to getting that to you!
