Cardinals Announce David Bell As Bench Coach

Cards Make 40-Man Roster Addition

ST. LOUIS, Mo., November 3, 2014 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that David Bell has been named the team’s bench coach, agreeing to a two‐year contract through the 2016 season. Bell spent the 2014 season as the Cardinals’ assistant hitting coach.

Bell, 42, enjoyed a 12‐year Major League career. Following his playing days, Bell garnered managerial experience as a manager in the Cincinnati Reds minor leagues from 2009‐2012. After four years in the Reds organization, he served as the third base coach for the Chicago Cubs in 2013 before joining St. Louis this past season.

A member of one of Major League baseball’s three generation families, Bell played with six different organizations throughout his career including St. Louis during parts of the 1995‐1998 seasons. He was part of the San Francisco Giants 2002 World Series team, after the Giants defeated St. Louis in the National League Championship round.

St. Louis’ bench coach position opened when Mike Aldrete accepted the job of bench coach with the Oakland Athletics. Aldrete was a coach with St. Louis from 2008‐2014.

Additionally, the Cardinals announced they have added catcher Ed Easley to the 40‐man roster, bringing the total to 35 players on the team’s 40‐man roster. Right‐handed pitchers Eric Fornataro and Jorge Rondon were claimed off waivers today; Fornataro by the Washington Nationals and Rondon by the Colorado Rockies.
