St. Louis to continue its affiliation through 2020
ST. LOUIS, MO (August 21, 2014) –The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have agreed to a four-year extension of their player development contract (P.D.C.) with the Peoria (Ill.) Chiefs of the Midwest League (A). Previously contracted through 2016, the newly-announced extension carries through the 2020 season.
“The Peoria Chiefs continue to run a first-class operation providing us with outstanding support of our player development efforts,” said Cardinals’ Senior Vice President/General Manager John Mozeliak. “We look forward to our continued relationship with the Chiefs and the Peoria community.”
The Cardinals and Chiefs shared a 10-year affiliation from 1995-2004, including 2002 when the Chiefs won their lone Midwest League Championship. The teams re-affiliated in 2013 with the Chiefs finishing fourth in the Midwest League Western Division. The Cardinals also had a three-year minor league presence in Peoria from 1954-56.
The Cardinals currently have two players on their Major League roster who played for Peoria: Yadier Molina (2002) and Jason Motte (2003).
