Down on the Farm: Not a Great Day Edition

If you want the short version of tonight’s games….everyone lost. If you want the long version, well here you go:

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Lost 5-4 to OKC

This really should have been a positive part of the post with me telling everyone to celebrate Memphis clinching the PCL, but the Redbirds bullpen had other ideas. Memphis led 4-0 when Jorge Rondon, Keith Butler and Nuck Greenwood combined to blow the lead, save and game. Jamie Romak drove in two RBI and Brock Peterson and Travis Tartamella drove in one RBI each.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Lost 2-1 to Tulsa

Stephen Piscotty led the offense with two hits and the lone RBI of the night. Ruben Gotay hit a double and scored on Piscotty’s hit. Tim Cooney pitched well, only allowing two runs in eight innings (both in the 8th), but took the loss.

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Lost 3-2 to Charlotte

There were only four hits for the Cardinals tonight and Alex Mejia and Danny Stienstra plated one RBI each. PB starter Joe Cuda pitched four scorless innings, but a big eight inning for Charlotte, scoring two runs off Hector Hernandez (who took the loss) and one more off Ronnie Shaban doomed the Cardinals.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Lost 11-2 to Kane County

Breyvic Valera led the way going 3-4 for the Chiefs, and Juan Herrera added a double. Nick Martini also went 2-4 with an RBI. Chris Perry started for Peoria and gave up six runs in less than two innings, and each reliever after that gave up at least one run (Donofrio, Voss, and Llorens).

State College Spikes (A): Lost 10-0 to Auburn

So after clinching the division championship, the Spikes got blown out in Auburn. Jimmy Bosco, Matthew Young and Dante Rosenburg were the only Spikes to hit safely. Starter Juan Bautista got rocked for six runs and Michael Aldrete gave up four more. Not a great night all around.

What a bummer of a night, at least from the minor league side of things. The big club won and tied for the Central lead once again so that’s exciting. As always, PREACH ON, my friends!
