Down on the Farm: Crunch Time Edition

Lance Lynn pulled a Lance Lynn, but hey, Axford threw a perfect one-two-three inning, so I guess that’s positive, right? Tyler Lyons moved back up to Memphis, which will most likely make it easier to call him up to St. Louis. But the biggest part of this weekend is that now is crunch time for the minor league affiliates that want to keep playing through September in their respective playoffs.

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Won 7-3 over Oklahoma City

The leadoff through the seventh hitter in the lineup all scored a run tonight. Romak drove in two and Garcia also knocked in two RBI as well. Scott McGregor went seven innings and earned the win. Hooker earned a hold and Nick greenwood pitched a scoreless ninth. The Redbirds are still tied at the top of the PCL with Omaha (Currently tied 4-4 with Round Rock in the ninth) and hold the tiebreaker should they tie for the division crown.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Lost 7-6 to Tulsa

The Cardinals had the lead going into the ninth inning, but two runs for the Drillers against reliever Dean Kiekhefer won it for Tulsa.  Offensively, Cody Stanley was a perfect 3-3 with a run scored. Gotay and Scruggs added two hits each and three RBI combined. Seth Blair gave up five runs (3 ER) in six innings and was in line for the win before Kiekhefer blew it.

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Lost 6-4 to Charlotte

Just about all of the offense came from David Popkins and Anthony Garcia, who drove in three of the four PB runs. Jonathon Rodriguez and Patrick Wisdon did add a double each. Kyle had gave up four runs (three of which were unearned), but it was Thomas Lee who gave up the Stone Crabs’ go-ahead run and suffered the loss.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Won 9-0 over Kane County

Trevor Martin led the way with three hits and five RBI. Breyvic Valera added two more RBI and Jordan Walton added three hits and two runs. Starter Cory Jones was stellar through six, with only four hits allowed. Then it went to Steven Sabatino, who earned the save giving up only one hit in three innings of relief.

State College Spikes (A): Won 7-4 over Auburn

Say hello to your NY-Penn Pinckney division Champions! The Spikes put the exclamation point on a great regular season with 16 hits. Steven Ramos went 3-5 with two runs, and Michael Schulze went 4-5 with two RBI. Jimmy Bosco added two hits and two runs scored as well. Kevin Herget pitched six innings and only allowed two runs, earning the division-clinching win. Congrats, boys!

So hopefully you could enjoy some college football as our Cardinals sadly dropped a game back to second in the Central once again. Still a chance to tie at the top tomorrow. As always, PREACH ON, my friends!
