Down on the Farm: Do the Memphis Shuffle

Another Memphis shuffle (sounds like an awesome dance, doesn’t it?) today as Carlos Martinez headed back down and Michael Blazek headed back to St. Louis. My sources (twitter) tells me that Memphis is in need of starters so Lyons and Martinez are needed down there. Also Brandon Phillips sucks. But we already knew that.

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Lost 8-7 to New Orleans

The Redbirds lost it. Then they had it. Then lost it again. Then had it. And finally lost it. Memphis got a huge three-run lead in the top of the 10th and Deryk Hooker blew the save chance. This after Keith Butler blew the save chance in the ninth. Brock Peterson homered, and Jermaine Curtis and Chad Huffman hit doubles, but in the end it came down to the bullpen and Kevin Thomas finally gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 11th.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Lost 3-1 to Arkansas

All the scoring in this game happened in the first three innings. Xavier Scruggs plated the one RBI for the Cardinals. Arkansas got all three runs off starter Zach Petrick, who took the loss.

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Lost 7-1 to Fort Myers

Not much offense here for our Cardinals. Patrick Wisdom was the only Cardinal with multiple hits, going 2-4. Jonathon Rodriguez went 1-2 and scored the only PB run. Wisdom also extended his hit streak to eight games. Kurt Heyer gave up three runs (2 ER) in five innings and took the loss.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Won 7-6 over Clinton (12 innings)

Usually when a team hits four home runs, it gets ugly early. And it did for Peoria. Starter Brad Wilson gave up six runs and four home runs, but all was not lost because Peoria mashed the Lumberkings for 22 hits. C.J. McElroy and Nick Martini had four hits each to propel this game into extras. Then in the bottom of the 12th, Jeremy Schaffer knocked in the winning run. I’ll bet that one was exciting to watch.

State College Spikes (A): Lost 9-1 to Williamsport

The Crosscutters jumped to a one run lead in the first. Then promptly added seven in the second. Luke Voit drove in the lone run for the Spikes and Jimmy Bosco and Steven Ramos both added two hits. Ben O’Shea took the loss, giving up seven runs in only 1.2 innings.

Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 5-3 to Burlington Royals

Once again, Bryan, Garcia, and Peoples-Walls are the big names tonight. Vaughn Bryan and Ronnierd Garcia both had three hits each, while Kenneth Peoples-Walls hit two more to combine for eight of the nine total hits for JC. Blake McKnight started and gave up one through five innings and Norge Paredes held the Royals to only one more. Zach Loraine tried for the two-inning save and gave up three runs for his fourth blown save of the season.

GCL Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 4-0 to GCL Nationals

After a night where most everybody won, guess today brought everyone back to Earth.  As always, PREACH ON, my friends!
