Down on the Farm: Back in first, and we ain’t Lyons!

Congratulations to Little Pedro (Carlos Martinez) on his first Major League win! And Another fine start for Tyler Lyons (sans the Descalso error), so the baby birds helping out the big club in a crucial victory to claim first place, if only for the night. Here’s what happened in the minors tonight:

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Lost 1-0 to New Orleans

The Redbirds outhit the Zephyrs and New Orleans even committed an error, but Memphis could not bring anyone around to score. Greg Garcia led the offense with two of the team’s five total hits. On a normal day, Scott McGregor may earn his sixth win, but instead took the loss while only giving up three hits and one run. The loss knocks the Redbirds back 1.5 games behind Omaha in the PCL standings.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Lost 8-5 to Tulsa

Ramsey went 2-4, Piscotty went 2-4 and Gotay added two more doubles, but Jose Almarante and the bullpen couldn’t salvage Seth Blair’s start. The Drillers drilled five runs in the final three innings to take the series from the Cardinals.

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Postponed (Rain)

Peoria Chiefs (A): Lost 3-1 to Cedar Rapids

Breyvic Valera got a couple hits and there wasn’t much more offense for the Chiefs. Chris Perry gave up three runs (only one was earned) in six innings and took the loss. The loss is now the fifth straight loss for Peoria, a season high for consecutive losses. Luckily, Clinton has also lost five straight so Peoria hasn’t lost any ground in the standings (still 3 GB).

State College Spikes (A): Lost 13-5 to Williamsport

On the positive side, Jimmy Bosco had two hits in two AB, with two BB and two runs scored. Steven Ramos added two more hits as well. On the negative side, the Crosscutters put up seven runs in the first inning off starter Juan Bautista and never recovered.

Johnson City Cardinals (Rookie): Won 5-3 over Danville

Ronnierd Garcia hit another home run tonight, not to mention three hits and five RBI. Vaughn Bryan went 2-3 and scored two runs. Will Anderson gave up one run in five innings to earn the win. Zach Loraine held it down for the save.

GCL Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 18-3 to GCL Mets

DSL Cardinals (Rookie): Season ended August 24 (35-36, 15 GB in Boca Chica South

So that’ll do it for your Monday scores. Hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday and as always, PREACH ON, my friends!
