Down on the Farm: Hump Day Edition

Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike (Matheny)….WHAT DAY IS IT????? HUMP DAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY

Did our baby birds get over the hump (bad joke, but just go with it)? Let’s have a look, shall we?

Memphis Redbirds (AAA): Won 7-1 over Iowa

The Redbirds found their bats in this game, knocking 12 hits and seven runs. Vance Albitz led the charge with three hits, while Brock Peterson, Greg Garcia, and Jermaine Curtis each hit safely twice. Scott McGregor pitched five innings and only gave up one run. The bullpen shut Iowa out from there.

Springfield Cardinals (AA): Loss 3-1 to NW Arkansas

The Cardinals were held to just two hits. Two hits. DH Matt Williams got one of them and the lone RBI. Springfield did hold the lead in this game until the seventh, when Tim Cooney gave up two runs in his final inning of work.

State College Spikes (A): Won 9-3 over Williamsport

Ronald Castillo had a whopping four hits in five ABs and drove in a run. Arturo Reyes went six innings and earned the win for the streaking Spikes, now sitting in first place by .5 games over Jamestown in the NY-Penn League standings.

Peoria Chiefs (A): Won 2-1 over Burlington

Nick Martini went 2-3 with an RBI and scored the go-ahead run when Brayvic Valera drove him home in the fourth inning. Silfredo Garcia got the win for the Chiefs.

Johnson City Cardinals (A): Did not play

Palm Beach Cardinals (A): Lost 6-4 to St. Lucie (resumed from 8/20), Won 7-0 over St. Lucie

Game 1: Jesus Montero went 2-4, but Corey Baker took the loss in relief of Joe Cuda.

Game 2: Kurt Heyer shutout the Mets in a gem of a start and the offense racked up seven runs, with Patrick Wisdom and David Popkins both going 2-3 on the night.

GCL Cardinals (Rookie): Lost 5-3 to GCL Nationals

DSL Cardinals (Rookie): Did not play

The big club takes another series and heads back to St. Louis for a tough stretch. Nice to see Westbrook not be overly horrible right? As always, PREACH ON, my friends!
