Sowing Seeds: White Smoke Edition

The best part about covering multiple teams is also the worst part sometimes. A number of players were deserving of top honors yesterday, so this afternoon’s post is all about the good. I have mentioned before that the enjoyment of covering the minors is strictly due to seeing good players become great. The Cardinals are blessed with a number of pieces other teams covet, and the rumors have already begun.

Personally, I am greedy and hope that St. Louis doesn’t bet the farm on any one player. There are few game-changing players that would be worth trading a whole bunch of years for any of the top arms. And last time I checked, the Tulo’s and Trout’s of the world are not on the market.

Thursday, July 11th

1st White — Zach Petrick, Palm Beach,7.1 IP, H, 2 BB, 6 SO (No-hitter into 8th)

2nd White — Pitching staff, Springfield, 5 H, 3 R, 4 BB, 12 K, Held NW Arkansas scoreless after 7th

3rd White — Adron Chambers, Memphis, 4-5, 3 R, 2 RBI, HR, 2B, SB (.433 AVG, 1.219 OPS in July)

Honorable mention goes to SCards catcher Cody Stanley for his two-run dinger in addition to catching all 13 innings. Tyler Lyons should go tonight since the big league team hasn’t made any last minute changes. Enjoy your weekend and once the dust settles, we’ll get to see just who is still wearing the Birds on the Bat.
