Sowing Seeds: Chiefs Save the Night

All around it was just not a good day for any team except Peoria. Starting out on the Left Coast pretty much straight down to Florida, a combo platter of bad pitching, no offense, or the weather wrecked havoc from the top to the bottom of the Cardinals’ organization. Have no fear St. Louis fans, it is not all doom and gloom on the eve of Independence Day, as the annual holiday now stretches from the 2nd of July right on to the weekend.

Having patience has never been one of my strengths, but I am learning to adjust that when following baseball. Lance Lynn will have a bad inning, but he won’t have that problem in the bullpen, right? The GCL Cardinals finally added both 2013 first round picks to the roster and waiting out the rain for their first appearances has taken its toll on your faithful Preacher. Leave it to the baseball Gods then to offer salvation for the summer blues in the form of hopefully the next Oscar Taveras or Carlos Martinez.

With the international signing bonanza in full swing, St. Louis inked four more teenage prospects. I will have updates next week on the group, but CF Carlos Talavera, SS Hector Linares, RHP Sandy Alcantara, and LHP Kerrison Bennett all hope to become household names in the very near future.

Tuesday, July 2nd

White smoke — Cory Jones, Peoria, 7 IP, 8 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 2 SO, 2 WP (4-1, 1.18 ERA)

Gray smoke — Mitchell Boggs, Memphis, 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 BB, Lowered ERA to 5.82

Black smoke — Jeremy Schaffer, Peoria, 1-4, 4 LOB including bases loaded in 8th (.681 OPS, losing time at 1B and could be demoted)

Fozzie Bear smoke — Michael Wacha, Memphis, 5.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 9 SO, L

Peoria has formed a nice rotation even after the promotion of Tyrell Jenkins, and it is time to start aggressively promoting up the ranks. My interest in the minors has peaked the last couple of years due to the front office pushing the pace to see who is up for the challenge. Enjoy the holiday everyone and hope to see a clean sweep right into next week!
